When East Became West by Craig B Snyder

IN 1973 the urethane wheel opened up a brand new frontier for skateboarding. Beginning in the mid-seventies, Craig B. Snyder captured many of his friends and cohorts on film while they innocently and not-so-innocently did what they loved to do in their native land of Florida.

Many of these friends went on to become
some of the biggest names and influences in skateboarding today. Contained in this book are rare never-before-seen images of legends
Alan “Ollie” Gelfand, Frank Nasworthy, Rodney Mullen, Mark Lake, Mike “McTwist” McGill, Tim Scroggs, Mike Folmer, Dan Murray, Henry Sarria, Ray Diez, Kelly Lynn, Clyde Rogers, Jim McCall and Bobby Little as well as visiting West Coast dignitaries such as Shogo Kubo, Brad Bowman and John Hutson.

This book of Craig’s early photographic work ranges from the years 1975 to 1979, containing nearly 300 images which explicitly document the most revolutionary and evolutionary period of skateboarding.

More than just a photo book, it is a long overdue and untold account of how the East Coast influenced, changed and revolutionized skateboarding the world over, and these legends and tales are woven into Craig Snyder's historic memoir of his life and times as a skateboarder and a photographer during the 1970's.

WHEN EAST BECAME WEST is a book of powerful moments, all joyfully captured and reflected through Craig Snyder's photography, memoirs, and stories. It is a book not just of a movement, but the moment; a book not just about skateboarding, but an important social history of what would ultimately become a world-changing culture.
